Inspired by 18th–19th century Ukrainian earrings — a flower set with a stone above (here, red cubic zirconia or green onyx), and a second pendant hanging below as protection and remembrance.
The flower was one of the most common forms in this tradition — earrings shaped like flowers, known as "makivky" (poppies), often built in two levels, with a further pendant hung beneath. In our design, that pendant becomes a heart - carried into the goldsmithing as an amulet, worn close to the body and passed from one person to the next.
Regional makers in Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv worked this same structure for generations.
